Too many Gurus…

Gurus are everywhere in the self-help universe. Unlike, science, medicine, accounting, law and a host of other professions where there are significant barriers to entry, Self-Help Gurus are coming out of the woodwork in amazing numbers. Like acting, making it big as a self-help guru is mostly centered in the presentation style of ideas. It’s mostly shtick.  Have an idea and an audience and you are in business. Marketing is at the heart of any Guru movement, but it seems particularly prevalent and most essential to Self-Help Gurus. The self-help movement has grown to become a multi-billion dollar industry. It is big business. The web has provided the perfect venue for this explosive growth.

Now I don’t have anything against self-help gurus, their content or their business models per se.  Having studied the work of many of these so-called experts for nearly 10 years now, much of what they blather about is essentially all the same stuff.  My concern is centered in the “snake-oil-carnival-barker” nature of how these people present themselves to the world. Most of it is, in my opinion, useless crap pretending to be the wisdom of the ages finally revealed. ( the “Secret” comes to mind.) If only life were that simple that all we need to do is think it and it will be so.  PT Barnum’s immortal words “there’s a sucker born every minute” seems to have extra significance here.  The law of attraction, visualization, and a host of other manifestation techniques are the stable diet for the poor masses who want to be rich…it’s easy for people to  buy into the “you can have anything you want” if only you change your negative thinking. These Gurus are smart marketers, nothing more. Having spent 30 years in marketing, “I knows it when I sees it”…

This blog is my own attempt at sharing a point of view about creating success in all areas of your life. And I believe that one can always be learning to grow and expand the quality of life’s experience. But growth and expansion in life is not a destination, it is a life-long process. There is no right technique or school of thought that has all the answers made simple… for $49.95

In my own life, I have had to learn every lesson the hard way–through my own experience. Of course I wish that I would have had more mentors and teachers along the way, but life itself is the great mentor and teacher, but only if you are paying attention. Most of us simply get in our own way because we believe more in the compelling reality of our current limitations than the possibility of a life experience without limits. We don’t believe in the unseen forces that govern the nature of physical reality.

For those people searching for a method to create more in life, I humbly offer mine for FREE:

  • you must have a deep understanding, belief and connection to your life’s purpose. All life-purposes seem to share a common attribute… serving others by using our unique gifts and talents.
  • you must have a vision about the expression of your life’s gift’s that is fueled by a passion (love) that is never-ending and always improving, growing and expanding. What is your “ideal scene”? Write it down in detail.
  • you must have the discipline to be accountable for your results. You create every circumstance in your life. If you don’t like your results, you must acknowledge the Truth of it, and begin new actions that are more in line with your purpose and your vision… this is a tough one for most people… many “fall off the wagon” here because they simply don’t know what they really want out of life.
  • you must “allow” your life to unfold in an easy and relaxed manner. Nothing in nature is forced to express itself. The same is true for you and your inspired ideas. Chill out and let go of all resistance.
  • you must be profoundly grateful and in full appreciation of EVERYTHING in your life right NOW. This is the biggest key to happiness and abundance.

I’m no Guru… I don’t have a following and I am not charging money for the wisdom I have accured and share here. Mentors and teachers, whatever their form are useful indeed… but you must be the creative force in your life. No tape, no seminar, no Guru will make that journey for you. Creative living is an inside out process. You can discover it all by yourself, if you allow your mind to be still. I would like to suggest that you give my method some serious consideration and reflection. It only takes a human being 30 days to create or break a habit… try it and see if you don’t notice a shift in your awareness. And as always, please share your comments here.
